Welcome to the start of the Junior Season. Over the past two weekends, it has been great to watch the enthusiasm and effort our young players are putting in to their games. It is also good to see the level of skill being displayed by our younger players particularly those who have been participating in the Skills Development Programme (SDP).
The first edition of the SDP programme has concluded with the awarding of 41 certificates to successful participants. This program has been designed to provide specialist coaching (in addition to that provided by team coaches) to develop a high level of skill and technique within the junior ranks. The program is open to all our registered players from the ages of 7 years to 11 years. The second edition of the programme began on Friday, 23 April and will run for eight weeks. There are still a few vacancies available in the Levels 1 and 2 groups. For more details please contact me.
The SDP programme would not have been so successful without the dedication of the programme's coaches Matt, Graeme, David, Sid and Tom who have given freely of their time and talents. The programme's continuing success and growth depends on the club being able to recruit talented coaches. Numbers in each group are limited to 12 so future enrolments depend on acquiring more coaches. The second edition of the SDP programme is fortunate to have acquired the services of Harry Makridas, former talented premier league player and currently coach of the Lytton Schools District team.
Football Brisbane recently announced their Under 8 to Under 12 Zone program and clubs were asked to nominate players, from their club born in years from 1999 to 2001 they regard as a potential talented player, to attend field days, where they may be identified and invited to join the program. The club has been notified that four of our junior players have been selected for this programme. The identification was supervised by the appointed coaches, the areas PTRDO and RDO. The FFA skills acquisition coach also had some input. Congratulations to these young players and the club wishes them every success in this programme.
Finally, I would like to wish all players, coaches and parents a happy and successful season.
