Skills Development Program
A positive addition to the club is the Junior Skills Development Program. The aim of the program is to provide specialist coaching (in addition to that provided by team coaches) to develop a high level of skill and technique within the junior ranks.
The program is aimed at the 7 to 11 years age group and is free. Participants will be divided into ability groups as opposed to age groups and there will be the opportunity to participate in local carnivals.
OBJECTIVES:
1. To provide specialist coaching (in addition to that provided by team coaches) to develop high levels of skill and technique.
2. To provide a designated pathway so that young players can develop these skills and techniques.
3. To provide a platform for young to develop skills and techniques that will enable them to progress to the club’s elite academy and onwards into senior football.
4. To encourage young players to remain loyal to the club.
IMPLEMENTATION:
- Specialist coaches to work in the Academy and provide them with opportunities to attend coaching courses that will up- grade their skills.
- The club to use Football Australia’s National Development Plan as a guide in designing a club curriculum and constructing skills tests.
- Coaches to use the club curriculum outlining the designated pathway that young players should follow in order to develop the skills and techniques desired.
- Assessors to use designated tests to measure the levels of skill and technique acquired by the players.
- Encourage young players to remain loyal to the club by making them feel special and by providing them with opportunities to participate in social activities, carnivals, attend Premier League games and meet visiting guest player.
COACHING
- Free and open to anyone in the local community aged from 7 years to 13 years.
- The programme will run for eight weeks with one session a week to be held on Friday nights.
- The programme will commence on TO BE CONFIRMED FOR 2012
- Length of sessions will be one hour from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.
- Ratio of coach to players will be 1:15 and numbers will be capped.
- Evaluation of skills will take place in all sessions and will be done by independent assessors.
